Taw Roofing Ltd are a reliable, quality roofing service provider based in Fremington, serving North Devon and Torridge. We provide full roof renewals and roof repairs on a wide roof types including slate, tiled, garage and flat roofs. We also fix and install new UPVC gutters, fascias and cladding. Our high quality standard of workmanship is applied to every project, for guaranteed best results. We are Firestone Flat Roof and Free Foam UPVC approved installers. From slate, tile, and flat roofs to UPVC dry ridge, guttering, fascias, and soffits, Taw Roofing Ltd uses the best quality materials to ensure every project is carried out professionally and to the highest standards. Here are a few of our recent projects. Contact us today to discuss your roofing requirements. Project 1: On this project the customer wanted the roof to be ready for the winter. On inspection the roof was full of moss blocking the tile channels, the roof vents had been installed incorrectly by another contractor and the ridge and verge mortar had perished. To rectify the issues we cleared both sides of the roof of moss (without the use of a pressure washer as this damages the tiles), installed a new dry ridge and verge system and installed the roof vents correctly and in the correct position for this type of roof. Project 2: We sometimes undertake unusual roofs and this was one of those. A customer had been in contact regarding perished under felt which had been damage by mice and needed replacing. These are unusual tiles (Cotswolds; note the differing tile sizes) for the North Devon/Torridge area but we were able to help drawing on experience from similar tiles we had worked with. We sourced replacement tiles and renewed the roof, installing a new breathable membrane to replace the perished under felt. Project 3: A customer had approached us regarding a leak on their flat roof. On inspection, the felt flat roof had come to the end of it life-span and begun to deteriorate, allowing water through onto the ceiling below in various places. To rectify the problem, we removed the existing felt flat roof and installed a new single ply Firestone rubber roof (we are approved installation contractors), which has no joins as it is installed in one piece, without the need for flame and is proven to last 50+ years.

Roof Repair FAQs

Find answers to common questions about roof repair and connect with trusted roofing contractors in the UK.

How do I dispose of old roofing materials?

Proper disposal of old roofing materials is crucial for environmental responsibility and often subject to local regulations. Contact your local waste management facility or municipality for guidelines on disposing of roofing debris. Some roofing materials, like asphalt shingles, may be recyclable. Check with local recycling centers or roofing contractors who offer recycling services.

How can I prepare for a roof repair?

To ensure a smooth and efficient roof repair process, take these preparatory steps:
  • Clear the Area: Remove vehicles, outdoor furniture, and other items from around your house, providing clear access for the roofing crew.
  • Protect Landscaping: Cover plants, shrubs, and other landscaping elements near the house with tarps or plastic sheeting to shield them from falling debris during the repair process.
  • Remove Wall Decorations: Vibrations during roof repairs can cause wall hangings, mirrors, and other decorations to fall and get damaged. Remove them from walls adjacent to the work area.
  • Cover Attic Belongings: Dust and debris can fall into the attic during repairs. Protect items stored in your attic with drop cloths or plastic sheeting.
  • Communicate with Your Contractor: Discuss access to your property, parking arrangements, and any specific concerns you have before the project starts to ensure smooth communication and minimize disruptions.
Taking these preparatory measures will create a safer and more organized work environment for the roofing crew and minimize the risk of damage to your belongings.

What is the difference between a roofer and a roofing contractor?

While the terms 'roofer' and 'roofing contractor' are often used interchangeably, there's a subtle distinction:
Roofer: Typically refers to a skilled worker who performs hands-on tasks related to roof installation, repair, or replacement. They are experienced in working with roofing materials, tools, and techniques.
Roofing Contractor: Is a business or individual who oversees and manages roofing projects. They may employ roofers and other skilled workers, handle project planning, obtain permits, order materials, and ensure the project meets all building codes and client requirements.
In essence, a roofer is a skilled laborer, while a roofing contractor is a business entity or manager responsible for the overall project.

What is an ice dam, and how can it damage my roof?

Ice dams are a common roof problem in cold climates and can cause significant damage if left unaddressed. They occur when snow on the roof melts and refreezes at the eaves, forming a dam of ice. This ice dam prevents water from melting snow further up the roof from draining properly, leading to water backup under the shingles. This trapped water can seep into the roof deck, insulation, and even the interior of your home, causing leaks, water damage, mold growth, and structural problems. To prevent ice dams, ensure proper attic insulation and ventilation to maintain a consistent roof temperature and prevent snow from melting unevenly.
