    Frome, GB

West Country Tiling are experienced and reliable roof specialists, based in Somerset and operating throughout the South West of England. We provide a range of roofing services to our clients, including churches, listed buildings and residential homes. We can carry out reroofs, roof repairs, roof tiling, roof slating, roof inspections, roof maintenance, roof repair from storm and wind damage, skylight installation and gutter repairs. As experienced roof specialists, we have significant experience of working with the following roof coverings: Cotswold stone slates, Collyweston stone slates, Hamstone slates, Purbeck stone slates, clay and concrete plain tiles, Welsh slate, Spanish slate, Delabole slate, Westmorland slate, Burlington slate, man-made slates, Cedar and Oak shingles, Clay Pantiles, Clay Double Roman tiles and Lead. All of our master craftsmen serve a formal apprenticeship in roof slating and tiling. Once this three year training is completed, they continue their on-site development working under an experienced master craftsman for several years. During this period they will attend two residential lead-working courses run by the Lead Sheet Association to develop these skills. We prefer our master craftsmen to take ownership of the roof that they are working on and that can only be achieved if they have carried out all of the work – carpentry, roofing and leadwork. This also avoids any overlap of different trades, which can often cause potential weak areas on the roof. Once these first six years of their training has been completed, they will often choose a speciality roof covering, for example stone slate roofing, they can then continue their development of this skillset. We have a very good record of long-term employees, this way we can establish not only excellent site practises but also good site behaviour – something that is very important to our clients. This excellence on-site behaviour is backed up by a professionally operated company with in-house Health & Safety specialists to ensure that your project runs without a hitch. The earlier we are able to start the planning and preparation of your project, the smoother the project can run. So please feel free to contact us to discuss any aspect of your potential roofing project.

Roof Coating FAQs

Have questions about roof coatings? Find answers to common queries and connect with qualified roof coating companies in the UK through Roofyng.co.uk.

How long does a roof coating last?

The lifespan of a roof coating depends on factors like:
  • Coating type (silicone typically lasts longer than acrylic)
  • Quality of materials and installation
  • Climate and weather exposure
  • Maintenance
A high-quality silicone coating, professionally applied, can last 10-20 years or more, while an acrylic coating might last 5-10 years. Review manufacturer warranties and consult with your contractor for estimated lifespan.

What types of roof coatings are available?

Several types of roof coatings are available, each with different properties and suitability for various roof types:
  • Silicone Coatings: Highly durable, weather-resistant, UV-resistant, and energy-efficient, suitable for many roof types.
  • Acrylic Coatings: Cost-effective, reflective, best for asphalt shingle roofs, providing moderate weather protection.
  • Polyurethane Coatings: Tough, seamless, excellent waterproofing, suitable for flat roofs or areas with ponding water.
  • Elastomeric Coatings: Flexible, bridge cracks and gaps, suitable for roofs prone to movement.
  • Bituminous Coatings: Asphalt-based, affordable, offer basic waterproofing, best for temporary fixes or low-slope roofs.
A qualified roofing contractor can recommend the best coating type for your specific roof.

What is an elastomeric roof coating?

An elastomeric roof coating is a type of coating known for its exceptional flexibility and ability to stretch and contract with the movement of the roof. This elasticity allows it to bridge small cracks and gaps, preventing leaks and maintaining a waterproof seal. Elastomeric coatings are often used on roofs with:
  • Multiple Penetrations: Roofs with numerous vents, pipes, or other protrusions.
  • Expansion and Contraction: Roofs prone to movement due to temperature fluctuations.
  • Cracks or Gaps: Roofs with existing cracks or gaps that need to be sealed.
They offer excellent waterproofing and weather resistance, extending the life of your roof.

What are the benefits of silicone roof coatings?

Silicone roof coatings are a popular choice due to their numerous advantages:
  • Exceptional Durability: Silicone coatings are known for their long lifespan, often exceeding 20 years with proper maintenance. They resist weathering, UV damage, and temperature fluctuations.
  • High Reflectivity: Silicone coatings typically have high reflectivity, reducing heat absorption and lowering cooling costs.
  • Excellent Adhesion: They adhere well to various roof substrates, ensuring a strong bond and preventing peeling or cracking.
  • Flexibility: Silicone coatings remain flexible even in extreme temperatures, accommodating roof movement and preventing cracks.
  • Low Maintenance: They require minimal maintenance, typically periodic cleaning to remove debris.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Some silicone coatings are low-VOC (volatile organic compounds), making them more environmentally friendly.
